Island Waste is focused on creating a more sustainable environment and diverting Guernsey’s waste from landfill to recover recyclables. The company currently prevents over 70% of the island’s waste from going to landfill, diverting 12,000 tonnes of rubbish annually which is then sorted and separated for re-use or recycling. The new static Kiverco waste plant will offer the company the opportunity to diversify and add new waste streams to continuously improve on the percentage of waste being recovered with the aim of Zero waste to landfill.
The new plant will cater for 0-300mm pre-shredded waste materials and produce up to 15 tph of either RDF or SRF waste.
Commenting on the investment, Steve Murphy, Director at Island Waste stated,
“We wanted to diversify our waste stream and chose to consult with Kiverco who we have worked with previously. We were delighted with the service and support that Kiverco had provided, and we were confident that they had the expertise, innovative design, and engineering capability to cater for our bespoke needs. Our primary focus was to develop our existing plant so that it was capable of producing both RDF and SRF product. Doing so meant that we could turn general waste into a fuel that can be used in Energy from Waste facilities to generate heat and power, rather than sending the waste to landfill. We are delighted with what the plant can now process and recover, and it will make a real difference to the local environment here in Guernsey.”
Kiverco has been Transforming the world’s waste for almost 30 years and have installed approximately 300 waste plants throughout the UK and Ireland as well as installations in Europe and the Middle East. Kiverco waste systems are used to process many types of waste, with a growing focus on waste to energy market, the company has invested heavily in new technology which will enable them to meet the demands of this flourishing sector.
Commenting on the new project, JP Devlin from Kiverco was very grateful to Steve and the team at Island Waste for choosing Kiverco:
“We are delighted that Steve and his team have returned to Kiverco to deliver another static waste plant solution for Island Waste. It’s fantastic to see a customer doing so well with their main waste streams that they are willing to invest in diversifying as the business grows. On an island that is only 30.12 square miles, Island waste is making waves in the waste management industry, striving for a cleaner, more sustainable island for future generations. At Kiverco we aim to raise the bar of recycling. We are focused on new innovations, better products, and a faster return on investment for the customer. Every plant we install sets a new standard for the global waste management market. We are always excited to work with like-minded companies who want to help improve the world we live in.”
